The ordering process
Because the CUSTOMFLEX® ARTIFICIALIRIS is an individually manufactured product, the production time is usually four to eight weeks. To ensure speedy processing, please note the following when ordering the implant:
Overview of topics
Online Certification Course
HumanOptics Holding AG has developed an online certification course in collaboration with an international team of renowned iris experts. The course provides current basic knowledge of CUSTOMFLEX® ARTIFICIALIRIS applications and discusses the new training standards. Each participant receives a certificate number, which is required to proceed with the product order.
A good photographic print is crucial
The CUSTOMFLEX® ARTIFICIALIRIS is individually custom-made in color based on the photographic prints submitted to us. For this reason, the quality of the photo print is crucial for the patient’s natural postoperative appearance.
Only the doctor and the patient can judge in person whether the photo prints faithfully reproduce the color scheme of the natural iris. Color prints have to be submitted to rule out any deviation in the color rendering of different printers and screens. A digital photo file is not sufficient.
If the clinic or physician does not have the necessary equipment to take high-quality photos and prints, we recommend that the photographs are taken by a professional photographer. The following provides information that will give the photographer the necessary information to take suitable pictures. Further information can be found in the presentation Photo Guidelines.
How to take a good picture
Two photos are required for production:
- Photo of the eye used as a color template
- Photo of both eyes (“sunglasses cutout”)
Standard photos in 9 x 13 cm format with the image of the iris on the individual pictures measuring approx. 3-6 cm are ideal.
How to evaluate photos
The photo print should be compared with the natural iris. To do this, the photo printout should be held directly next to the eye of the patient. The color pattern of the natural iris must match that of the sharp photo print. The sclera should be white and without a color tint. Once evaluated, please add the date and a signature to the image selected as a template for production.
Tips for a good picture
Tips for a good picture
- Illuminate the patient’s eye evenly to avoid shadows on the iris.
- Perform a white balance with your camera at the exact location where you want to photograph the patient’s eye. A grey or white card can help you to do this.
- The patient’s iris should be completely visible and in sharp focus.
Important
- Slit lamps, fundus cameras or other video cameras are not suitable for taking good photos.
- Good and even illumination of the eye is essential; do not try to use a flash, as it may overexpose the photo and create reflections from the cornea.
- Laser printers are usually not as good as inkjet printers.
- Photo paper produces better results than regular copy paper.
